Dev Log #6

"It can be especially hard for a first-time reader to distinguish a strategy hint from a rule." - Writing Effective Rules, Section 5. Today we were tasked with playing a game called "The Crew." AT first when the rules were being explained to me and my classmates, it was extremely hard for me to understand what the rules were and how it was supposed to be played. We then started to play it and it took me a while to understand what ways some strategies could be used. But after giving it some more time, I started to finally understand how the game was supposed to be played and I began to make up strategies on how to win.

"Once you establish a specific game term, you should use it consistently. " - Writing Effective Rules, Section 5.  After a few rounds of me and my group playing the game "The Crew" I began to make a strategy of my own. The strategy I came up with seemed to work in my favor quite often and so I started using this strategy over and over again. I wanted to mix it up a little bit to see what other outcomes could happen but I was too in the zone and I started to compete to win.

"The first phase in the iterative game design process is conceptualize—developing an idea for the game and its play experience." - O'Reilly Chapter 9, Conceptualizing. At first when the game was being explained to me, I began to think that this game was played a lot like UNO since the objective of the game is mostly having to match cards with the same color or number. I know this quote is directly talking about creating a game but my mind started to race on ideas about the game and how it could be played and strategized. I would also like to take some inspiration from this game and its rules and ideas and implement them into my own card game.
