Dev Log #10

"For these games, a combination of die rolls, card draws, or other random processes determine the events and winners." -O'Reilly, Zach Wihiller, Chapter 11- Randomness." While designing our game for our project. we knew for a fact that the outcome of the game is mostly determined by the rolling of Dice. We made a game based on fighting people in a bar. Each player plays as a character with their own special ability and their own set of die numbers. The whole objective of the game is for three players to team up and beat a set of 3 bosses. The way the players make moves is by rolling a die and hoping to get a higher number then their opponent. Getting a higher number on the dye means you do damage to your opponent. This game does not require much skill at all, it is the die you have to rely on in order to win.

"If they believe that the randomness limits their chances at victory, they can view it as less fair. " - O'Reilly, Zach Wihiller, Chapter 11- Randomness."  There were certain characters in the game that had a disadvantage to other characters in the game. There was one character that had a bigger amount of hit points than other characters but there set of die numbers was extremely low. The highest number they could roll was 5 even though there are 6 sides on a die. This character normally rolled lower numbers than their opponent and lost a lot of rounds of rolling. The person playing this character thought that this was a weaker character and unfair to play as  because this character could do almost no damage. However they could take a lot of damage. The player thought it was harder to play this character because of its stats.

"However, when players had a 3:1 advantage, they felt that their advantage was overwhelming and that they should never lose such a matchup, despite the magnitude of the differences being the same." - O'Reilly, Zach Wihiller, Chapter 11- Randomness. Since our game was developed as a three versus one battle, we did notice that the three players playing together had an advantage over the boss.  The boss could mostly only attack one player at a time, and there was still a chance that the player could roll a higher number than him. The three players teaming up however could attack and damage the boss if the boss isn't attacking them and if they roll a higher number. The way the boss determines who he attacks is also determined by the role of a die. The boss could attack everyone but the chances of that happening are low. The players can always attack the boss.
